After opening for Britney Spears on the first leg of the highly successful “Onyx Hotel Tour” this spring, 16-year-old Capitol recording artist Skye Sweetnam has been invited to stay on for the European and second U.S. legs of the tour.
Sweetnam’s debut album, Noise From The Basement, will be released later this summer and one of the tracks, “Imaginary Superstar,” has already been tapped for the MGM feature Sleepover, which stars Spy Kids’ Alexa Vega and is due out July 9th. (Skye has also directed a video for the track, which she shot in her bedroom using her brother’s PLAYMOBIL® figures! It can be seen at http://www.skyesweetnam.com.)
Meanwhile, “Number One,” another of Skye’s tunes, will be featured in national TV spots for the WNBA beginning this month, and Capitol is preparing to take “Tangled Up In Me,” the first single from Noise From The Basement, to radio in advance of the album’s release. It is currently available at iTunes and all other digital retails. Beginning 6/ 21 st, a special enhanced CD single of “Tangled Up In Me” will be for sale exclusively at Limited Too stores.
Skye has already appeared on numerous television shows, including “The Late Late Show With Craig Kilborn,” ABC Family Channel’s #1 rated show, “SWITCHED” (in which she switched places with a high school track & field star), CNN’s “Headline News” and “The Music Room” and The N’s “Radio Free Roscoe” (which she also recorded the theme song for) and “Real Access.” She’s currently featured in the May issue of Teen Vogue and participating in the annual Pantene ProVoice music competition, a contest designed to give the next generation of talented female artists a way to kick-start their careers--and make a difference.
“I believe in supporting and encouraging girls to get into music and use it as a form of expression and creativity,” says Sweetnam of her involvement with ProVoice. “I want them to realize that there’s music inside of us all and it just takes a little polish to let that shine through.”
